Upfront 2012: CW Schedule

The final day of Broadcast Upfronts for the year and the CW closes the show. A lot of shows made time and night changes for the channel and they have two new shows that interest me enough to try them out in the Fall.

THE CW’s 2012-2013 PRIMETIME SCHEDULE

MONDAY

8:00-9:00 PM             90210 (New Night)

9:00-10:00 PM           SUPERNATURAL (New Night)

FRIDAY

8:00-9:00 PM             AMERICA’S Next Top Model (New Night)
9:00-10:00 PM           Nikita (New Time)

“EMILY OWENS, M.D.”
At long last, Emily Owens feels like she is an actual grown-up.  She can finally put her high school days as the geeky-girl-with-flop-sweats behind her; she’s graduated from medical school and is now a first-year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital, where she’ll have the chance to work with world-famous cardiologist Dr. Gina Beckett – and where, not-so-coincidentally, her med-school crush Will Rider is also an intern.  So why does everyone keep warning her that the hospital is just like high school?  Emily soon finds out the hard way – her high school nemesis, the gorgeous, popular Cassandra Kopelson, is also just starting out at Denver Memorial, and it seems like they’re rivals all over again – not only as surgical interns, but for Will’s attention.  Fellow intern Tyra Granger warns Emily that the cliques at Denver Memorial are all too familiar: the jocks have become orthopedic surgeons; the mean girls are in plastics; the rebels are in the ER, and Tyra has her own Awkward place as the principal’s kid – her father is the chief resident.  Emily’s the new kid all over again, and it’s just as Awkward as high school.  Only this time around, Emily will have to balance the personal and emotional turmoil of social politics with the high-stakes world of life-and-death medical decisions.   At least she has fellow intern Tyra and nerdy-but-cute resident Micah, to count on as friends.  Emily is growing to realize that although she may be a geek, she may also grow to be a great doctor, flop sweats and all.  The series stars Mamie Gummer as Emily, Justin Hartley as Will, Michael Rady as Micah, Aja Naomi King as Cassandra, Kelly McCreary as Tyra and Necar Zadegan as Gina.  EMILY OWENS, M.D. is from CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros. Television with executive producers Jennie Snyder Urman (“90210,” “Lipstick Jungle”), Dan Jinks (“Pushing Daisies,” “Milk”) and Bharat Nalluri (“Tsunami”).  The pilot was directed by Bharat Nalluri.

Personally I think it sounds like Grey's Anatomy for the CW but I like  some of the actors that were cast and I don't think I have a lot of shows I watch that air on Tuesdays so I'll give it a chance.

“ARROW”
After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific.  When he returns home to Starling City, his devoted mother Moira, much-beloved sister Thea, and best friend Tommy welcome him home, but they sense Oliver has been changed by his ordeal on the island.  While Oliver hides the truth about the man he’s become, he desperately wants to make amends for the actions he took as the boy he was.  Most particularly, he seeks reconciliation with his former girlfriend, Laurel Lance.  As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory.  By day, Oliver plays the role of a wealthy, carefree and careless philanderer he used to be – flanked by his devoted chauffeur/bodyguard, John Diggle – while carefully concealing the secret identity he turns to under cover of darkness.  However, Laurel’s father, Detective Quentin Lance, is determined to arrest the vigilante operating in his city.  Meanwhile, Oliver’s own mother, Moira, knows much more about the deadly shipwreck than she has let on – and is more ruthless than he could ever imagine.  The series stars Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance, David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance.  Based on characters appearing in comic books and graphic novels published by DC Comics, ARROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Green Lantern,” “Brothers & Sisters”), Marc Guggenheim (“FlashForward,” “Eli Stone”), Andrew Kreisberg (“Warehouse 13,” “The Vampire Diaries”) and David Nutter (“Smallville,” “Supernatural,” “Game of Thrones”).  Melissa Kellner Berman (“Eli Stone,” “Dirty Sexy Money”) is co-executive producer. The pilot was directed by David Nutter from a teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim, story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim.

Since Smallville has ended I need a comic book show that I can get behind and Arrow seems to fit the bill. I'm glad they decided not to make it a Spin Off of Smallville but rather made it it's own origin story. Hopefully this can be the hit show Katie Cassidy deserves since she was the only good reason to watch that horrible Melrose Place remake.

Upfront 2012: CBS Schedule

None of the new shows listed for CBS really interested me although I may give Partners a try since I'm a fan of Sophia Bush and I think she could do well in a comedy. CBS also has made some good choices with comedies. I didn't think I'd like How I Met Your Mother or Big Bang Theory when they were in their first seasons and not they are two of my favorite shows.

PARTNERS is a comedy based on the lives of creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick, about two life-long best friends and business partners whose “bromance” is tested when one of them is engaged to be married.  Joe (David Krumholtz) is an accomplished architect who leads with his head and not his heart, especially in his love life.  That’s in stark contrast to his gay co-worker, Louis (Michael Urie), who is spontaneous, emotional and prone to exaggeration.  Both have found joy in their love lives: Joe is newly engaged to Ali (Sophia Bush), a beautiful and sophisticated jewelry designer, while Louis is dating Wyatt (Brandon Routh), a vegan nurse who Louis insists is just a promotion away from becoming a doctor.  As news of Joe’s engagement settles, time will tell if their business and personal bond can adapt to the addition of two other important relationships.  Emmy Award winners David Kohan and Max Mutchnick are executive producers for Warner Bros. Television.  Emmy Award winner James Burrows directed the pilot.

9:00 p.m.                      “Revenge
10:00 p.m.                    “666 Park Avenue”

There are two new shows in the Fall on ABC that interest me.

“666 PARK AVENUE”

At the ominous address of 666 Park Avenue, anything you desire can be yours. Everyone has needs, desires and ambition. For the residents of The Drake, these will all be met, courtesy of the building’s mysterious owner, Gavin Doran (Terry O’Quinn). But every Faustian contract comes with a price. When Jane Van Veen (Rachael Taylor) and Henry Martin (Dave Annable), an idealistic young couple from the Midwest, are offered the opportunity to manage the historic building, they not only fall prey to the machinations of Doran and his mysterious wife, Olivia (Vanessa Williams), but unwittingly begin to experience the shadowy, supernatural forces within the building that imprison and endanger the lives of the residents inside. Sexy, seductive and inviting, The Drake maintains a dark hold over all of its residents, tempting them through their ambitions and desires, in this chilling new drama that’s home to an epic struggle of good versus evil.

“666 Park Avenue” stars Rachael Taylor (“Charlie’s Angels,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” Transformers) as Jane Van Veen, Dave Annable (“Brothers & Sisters,” “Reunion”) as Henry Martin, Robert Buckley (“One Tree Hill,” “Lipstick Jungle”) as Brian Leonard, Mercedes Masöhn (“The Finder,” “Chuck,” “Three Rivers”) as Louise Leonard, Helena Mattsson (“Iron Man 2,” “Nikita,” “Desperate Housewives”) as Alexis Blume, Samantha Logan as Nona Clark, with Vanessa Williams (“Desperate Housewives,” “Ugly Betty,” “Shaft,” “Soul Food”) as Olivia Doran and Terry O’Quinn (“Lost,” “Millennium,” “Hawaii Five-0,” “Alias,” “The West Wing,” “Jag”) as Gavin Doran.

Based on the book series by Gabriella Pierce, “666 Park Avenue” was written by David Wilcox (“Fringe,” “Life on Mars”), who is also an executive producer along with Matthew Miller (“Chuck,” “Human Target”), Leslie Morgenstein (“Gossip Girl,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Pretty Little Liars,” “The Lying Game,” “The Secret Circle,” “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”), Gina Girolamo (“The Secret Circle,” “The Lying Game”) and Alex Graves (“Fringe,” “The West Wing”). The pilot for “666 Park Avenue” was directed by Alex Graves. “666 Park Avenue” is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Alloy Entertainment (“Gossip Girl,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Pretty Little Liars”) and Warner Bros. Television.

If for nothing else I will watch this because Terry O'Quinn is an amazing actor But the story sounds intriguing and shows like this seem to work on ABC with both Lost and Once Upon A Time both finding success. I Never thought Once Upon A Time would find Success and it ended up being the top new drama last season so I think this had a good chance of suceeding.

LAST RESORT”

500 feet beneath the ocean’s surface, the U.S. ballistic missile submarine Colorado receive their orders. Over a radio channel, designed only to be used if their Homeland has been wiped out, they’re told to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan.

Captain Marcus Chaplin (Andre Braugher) demands confirmation of the orders only to be unceremoniously relieved of duty by the White House. XO Sam Kendal (Scott Speedman) finds himself suddenly in charge of the submarine and facing the same difficult decision. When he also refuses to fire without confirmation of the orders, the Colorado is targeted, fired upon, and hit. The submarine and its crew find themselves crippled on the ocean floor, declared rogue enemies of their own country. Now, with nowhere left to turn, Chaplin and Kendal take the sub on the run and bring the men and women of the Colorado to an exotic island. Here they will find refuge, romance and a chance at a new life, even as they try to clear their names and get home.
“Last Resort” stars Andre Braugher (“Men of a Certain Age”) as Captain Marcus Chaplin, Scott Speedman (“The Vow”) as XO Sam Kendal, Daisy Betts (“Sea Patrol”) as Lieutenant Grace Shepard, Dichen Lachman (“Being Human”) as Tani Tumrenjack, Daniel Lissing (“Crownies”) as SEAL Officer James King, Sahr Ngaujah (“House of Payne”) as Mayor Julian Serrat, Camille de Pazzis as Sophie Gerard, Autumn Reeser (“Hawaii Five-O,” “No Ordinary Family”) as Kylie Sinclair, Jessy Schram (“Falling Skies,” “Once Upon A Time”) as Christine Kendal.

Recurring guest star is Robert Patrick (“The Gangster Squad”) as Master Chief Joseph Prosser.
“Last Resort” was written by Shawn Ryan (“The Shield,” “The Unit,” “The Chicago Code”) and Karl Gajdusek, who are also executive producers along with Martin Campbell and Marney Hochman Nash. The pilot for “Last Resort” was directed by Martin Campbell. “Last Resort” is produced by Middkid Productions in association with Sony Pictures Television.

While the show intrigues me I can see this one going the same way as The River and Awake. A high concept show that either fails to deliver or noone really gives it a chance and it's cancelled. I'll wait a few weeks before jumping on to ensure I don't watch for nothing.

The other show that interests me is Zero Hour but that appears to be part of ABC's mid season plans so I'll look into that then depending on what I can fit on the DVR.

Upfronts 2012: Fox Schedule

Fox announced there new schedule today for next Fall. I think the biggest move was moving Glee to Thursdays and away from The Voice. I personally think it's a mistake but I guess we'll see how it does. I was also shocked that Bob's Burgers was renewed for another season .

There isn't a lot on the schedule that really interests me for new shows but I am glad that Fringe got a final season to tie everything up.

Upfronts 2012: NBC Schedule

NBC announced there new Fall Schedule today. There was a lot of changes on it and a lot that I just don't understand what they are planning. I can honestly see the channel falling apart.

SUNDAY (Post-football/Winter 2013)
7-8 p.m. – “Dateline NBC”
8-9 p.m. – “Fashion Star
9-10 p.m. – “The Celebrity Apprentice
10-11 p.m. – “DO NO HARM”

I'm not sure what they are thinking with four nights of comedies. Expecially since The Office hasn't been good since season 7, Whitney shouldn't have gotten a second season, and the rest just don't really interest me other then 1600 Penn and that doesn't appear until Mid Season. They still have The Voice going for it but if they don't make changes soon that will become stale quickly.

The one show that interests me this fall on NBC.

“Revolution” -- Our entire way of life depends on electricity. So what would happen if it just stopped working? Well, one day, like a switch turned off, the world is suddenly thrust back into the dark ages. Planes fall from the sky, hospitals shut down, and communication is impossible. And without any modern technology, who can tell us why?  Now, 15 years later, life is back to what it once was long before the industrial revolution: families living in quiet cul-de-sacs, and when the sun goes down lanterns and candles are lit. Life is slower and sweeter. Or is it?  On the fringes of small farming communities, danger lurks. And a young woman’s life is dramatically changed when a local militia arrives and kills her father, who mysteriously – and unbeknownst to her – had something to do with the blackout. This brutal encounter sets her and two unlikely companions off on a daring coming-of-age journey to find answers about the past in the hopes of reclaiming the future.  From director Jon Favreau (“Iron Man,” “Iron Man 2”) and the fertile imaginations of J.J. Abrams (“Lost,” “Person Of Interest”) and Eric Kripke (“Supernatural”), comes a surprising “what if” action-adventure series, where an unlikely hero will lead the world out of the dark. Literally. The series stars Billy Burke (“The Twilight Saga”), Tracy Spiridakos (“Being Human”), Anna Lise Phillips (“Terra Nova”), Zak Orth (“Romeo + Juliet“), Graham Rogers (“Memphis Beat”), J.D. Pardo (“A Cinderella Story”),  Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”), David Lyons (“The Cape”), Maria Howell (“The Blind Side”), Tim Guinee (“Iron Man”) and Andrea Roth (“Rescue Me”).  Kripke, Abrams, Favreau and Bryan Burk (“Lost,” “Star Trek”) serve as executive producers.  “Revolution” is produced by Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Bad Robot Productions, Kripke Enterprises and Warner Bros. Television.  The pilot was directed by Favreau.

It sounds interesting if it is done well. I'll try it out if it fits my schedule but if not then I'm not really worried since it does sound like it could be an one season and done show like The Event and Flash Forward.

At least NBC still has Sunday Night Football going for it.

Music Monday: Mother's Day Edition

You taught me everything
Everything you've given me
I'll always keep it inside
You're the driving force in my life, yeah

There isn't anything
Or anyone that I could be
And it just wouldn't feel right
If I didn't have you by my side

You were there for me to love and care for me
When skies were gray
Whenever I was down
You were always there to comfort me

And no one else can be
What you have been to me you will always be
You will always be the girl
In my life for all times

Mama, Mama you know I love you
Mama, Mama you're the queen of my heart
Your love is like tears from the stars
Mama I just want you to know lovin' you is like food to my soul

My mother was always there for me. We have had our disagreements and I haven't always agreed with things that she has done but she was always a great mother to me.

She always pushed me to be better then I thought I could be. She made sure I excelled at school pushing me to graduated and go further in life. She always accepted who I was but she knew I could do anything I wanted and helped me get where I wanted to be.

I remember she was working in the school library. One day I had decided to skip my business class and go play baseball. I had this friend who ratted me out to the teacher and when the teacher went to ask my mom where I was she covered for me without evening thinking about it. That is what a mother does. They protect their children without thinking about it. And my mother is a horrible liar. That was one of the things I got from her. We are horrible at lying but she was able to pull it off for me.

She was also there for me when I graduated from University. It may not seem like a major thing for a mother to attend her only son's university graduation but when money is tight and there is a 8 hour car drive between Campbellton and Antigonish it is nice to know that you have a mother who will sacrifice other things to make sure she is there on one of the best days of your life. But that is another thing mothers do. They sacrifice for their children. Whether it's handing over a $20 to buy a CD or spending hundreds to make sure she is there to see her son get his diploma.

I'm lucky to be blessed with a wonderful Mother.

 Happy Mother's Day
I Love You Mom!

Top Ten: Unlikeable Characters Who Turned It Around

It 's a hallmark of any teen drama. There is always the character that starts off as the asshole. He's the arch nemesis of the main character. You should off hating the character but slowly things change. The characters grow up. They learn from mistakes and eventually the character becomes a fan favorite and the past is forgotten and forgiven.

Anyways since I'm a huge geek who watches way to much TV I created another list below.

10.  Evan on Greek

The character went back and forth so many times between likable and despicable. At least he got it together by the end and stood by the KTs.

9. Whitney on Smallville

Another character that went back and forth but you have to appreciate someone who dies fighting for his country.

8. Luke on The OC

He makes the list more because he was able to jump ship before the show got really bad in season two.

7. Logan on Veronica Mars

He was really annoying at first and was kind of a cliche but by the end of the first season of was one of the best reasons to watch the show since he made a great couple with Veronica.

6. Taylor on The OC

It wasn't that she was unlikable. She was more annoying then unlikable but the character changed the dynamic of the fourth (and arguable the best) season of the show.

5. Sawyer on Lost

I think the character was forced to become likable because of how Josh Holloway portrayed Sawyer. He was written as the anti-jack but with the nicknames and private moments he shared with other castaways he was hard not to like the character.

4. Jin on Lost

When the show started I hated Jin but at the moment when he realized that Sun could speak English it all changed for him. He developed a friendship with Michael and Sawyer which allowed the character to grow into move then just a dominating husband.

3. Bright on Everwood

The main problem with Bright was that he started off as a very one dimensional character. He was the bully jock character that any decent person hated in high school which made you dislike him. Again it was a matter of letting the character grow into more then just the jock. Once he become the good brother and good friend the character become one of the better parts of a great show.

2. Alex on Grey’s Anatomy

It's been a long run for the character who started by antagonizing the core cast into becoming friends with them. Out of anyone on the show he has changed the most becoming a respectable doctor who truly cares for his patients.

1. Nathan on One Tree Hill

A true picture of how love can make someone change for the better. Sometimes all you need is the desire to be a better person so that you can earn the love of someone else. It took about half a season to become likable but once it happened there was no turning back for the character.

Top Twenty: Annoying Characters

A few weeks ago Entertainment Weekly posted there choices for annoying TV Characters. I didn't agree with all the selections but it got me thinking about which TV characters I found the most annoying and when Nessa asked me if I wanted to do a list of annoying characters I jumper at the chance.

You can see her list here:

20. Peyton Sawyer – One Tree Hill

I loved One Tree Hill but there's only so much that you can handle with one character being stalked, shot, having mystery parents, and having a difficult pregnancy. There's a reason the show got better after season 5 and 6.
19. Nikki/Paulo – Lost

I am not sure what the writers were thinking introducing two characters out of nowhere and making it seem like there were in the background the entire time. It wasn't like introducing the Others who were mysterious and interesting. These two were just taking up space on the screen and I don't think I've ever applauded a character's death as match as the end of these two.

18. Meredith – Grey’s Anatomy

The writers treat her like she's the Queen of the world and it doesn't matter what stupid thing she does someone steps up to find a loop hole or to take the blame for her rather then allow her to face the consequences.
17. Blair – Gossip Girl

For some reason every guy on Gossip Girl falls for Blair and I've never seen why. She's selfish and self-centered. Not only that everyone wants her but she can never fully make up her mind with what she wants.

16. Zoe – How I Met Your Mother

It's not that I really disliked the character but at this point in the show I just get annoyed that they keep introducing love interests that are not the mother. We know the relationship is not going to go the distance so the character just seems like a waste of time.

15. Max – Greek

Again I didn't hate Max but he annoyed me because I wanted Casey with Cappie and Max stood in the way.
14. Paris and Nicole – The Simple Life

I sadly enjoyed this show because they were just so stupid but it didn't change the fact that the two were as annoying on the show as they are in real life.
13. Dean – Gilmore Girls

He was a very one sided character on a show with such great and quirky characters.
12. Priya – Big Bang Theory

As with Max the character annoyed more because I wanted Leonard with Penny and Priya stood in the way of what I wanted.

11. Duncan – Veronica Mars

This one stems from the fact that the actor playing Duncan was just not a good actor and was over shadowed by the actors surrounding him.
10. Joey Potter – Dawson’s Creek

Joey was such a neurotic character who had a horrible angry face. I never understood why Dawson and Pacey loved her so much because watching her drove me crazy. I can understand being attracted to her but to have a life long love with a character that just drove me crazy watching her never made sense.

9. Liz – Roswell

See Joey Potter but multiple the annoying habits by 1000. Not only that but she made the characters in scenes with her annoying as well.

8. Serena – Gossip Girl

The charactar annoys me the most because five seasons into the show she is the exact same character she was in the pilot. She makes the same mistakes over and over again and it just gets old.
7. Randy Jackson – American Idol

The last remaining judge from the original trio was always the most annoying with his inane comments and need to call over one Dawg. It's time to let him go and get a real judge.

6. Izzie – Grey’s Anatomy

She did so many things wrong yet she always blamed someone else for what happened. She never took real ownership for what she did.

5. Tara – True Blood

I just don't like the character at all. Every time she is on screen I feel like fast forwarding and roll my eyes with the nonsense that they make her say.

4. Fran – The Nanny

The voice is what makes the character so annoying.
3. Mohinder Suresh – Heroes

The worst character in a badly written show.
2. Annie Wilson – 90210

The show is already a mess. When I watch it is just a guilty pleasure but Annie just ruins any scene and storyline she is in. She's hit a guy with no repercussions and became a prostitute with no repercussions. I mean really.

1. Marissa Cooper – The OC

The precursor to the poorly written character of Selena. She was the original character that never evolved into anything more then she was in the pilot. Her death made The OC season 4 so much better.
